Why Won't My Maytag Washer Drain?

Why Won't My Maytag Washer Drain?

If your Maytag washer isn't draining water properly, there's one typical problem that could distrupt your washing schedule. Fortunately, diagnosing and resolving this issue frequently only requires minimal technical knowledge.

Check the Drain Hose

The drain pipe should be checked first. Make that it is not in any way twisted, kinked, or blocked. Drainage issues can result from a hose that is kinked. To ensure that water can readily flow into the drain, straighten the hose and make sure it has a clean path.

Clean the Drain Filter

The majority of Maytag washers come with a drain filter that is designed to trap debris and keep the drain pump from becoming clogged. Lint, coins, or tiny objects left in pockets may block this filter over time. Find and remove the filter, which is often located at the front or back of the device. Completely clean it, then replace it.

Check the Drain Pump

Examining the drain pump is necessary if cleaning the drain filter does not resolve the problem. Start by unplugging the washer and draining the drum of any water that may still be inside. Access the drain pump, which is normally found near the machine's base, after that. Examine the area for any foreign things that might be obstructing the pump's impeller, such as coins or tiny pieces of clothes. Remove any barriers and check that the pump can move freely.

Test the Drain Pump

You can manually test the drain pump to see if it is operating properly. Check the pump's continuity with a multimeter to make sure electrical current is flowing through it. If there isn't continuity, the pump is probably broken and needs to be replaced.

Examine the Drain Hose Extension

Drainage problems might occasionally be brought on by the drain hose extension that joins your washer to the domestic drainage system. Make sure it isn't overly long or twisted, as these conditions can result in poor water drainage. If required, adjust the hose to create a clear outlet for the water.

Check the Household Drain

If all else fails and the Maytag washer still won't drain correctly, the problem may be with your home's drainage system. Make sure your household drain isn't blocked or backed up because this could prevent your washer from draining properly. To solve this problem, a plumber could be needed.
